Physical Education
High-quality physical education is characterized by standards-based instruction and includes moderate-to-vigorous physical activity for at least 50 percent of the class time, but not at the expense of skill development or high-quality instruction; follows appropriate instruction practices; and is developmentally appropriate to students’ physical, cognitive and social needs of children (NASPE, 2003).
Objective of Physical Education
Cheldelin Middle School strives to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of physical activity. Students will meet national standards and benchmarks through the design and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessment. The overall goal of physical education at Cheldelin Middle School is to provide students with the skills to become lifelong learners and movers.
Oregon State Physical Education Standards
Standard 1: Motor skills and movement patterns
Standard 2: Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics.
Standard 3: Demonstrates knowledge and skills to maintain fitness.
Standard 4 - Responsible Personal and Social Behavior
Standard 5: Recognizes value of physical activity.
Grading and Assessment
60% - Summative: A final assessment or assignment; given after teaching and learning has taken place, completed with academic integrity.
40% - Formative: Used for the learning of the student; directly relates to the content and skills of the course; must be accessible to all students and must not unduly weight or influence student’s final grade; can be an assignment used to teach.
Classroom Behavior Expectations
The student will:
8th grade - 1st quarter - 3 weeks to turn in after due date - 10%; 2 - 4 quarter - 2 weeks to turn in after due date - 20% (2 letter grades)

PE Clothing: Active Pants shorts, closed- toed shoes, Cheldelin PE shirt
Health: Pen or Pencil, iPad

- Work to improve his/her skills in class every day.
- Demonstrate skills and knowledge in several ways through participation and assessments.
- Respect others in class- respect differences in ability, personality, and experience.
- Demonstrate positive sportsmanship and safety.
